Originally set aside in 1879, Veterans Memorial Park commemorated those who had fought in the American Civil War. Later memorials have been added honoring veterans from World War I, World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
It is a central gathering place on the main street through the city, with a large performance stage. Many events and festival are held here throughout the year. There are usually a lot of people here, and others passing through, so it's not the best park for picnics or other recreation.
