Previous to 1984, this mosaic flame sculpture was located at the
City Hall of South San Francisco. In 1984 the sculpture and
two neighboring plaques honoring the war dead of South San Francisco from World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam war were moved to
Orange Memorial Park.
Today this brightly colored mosaic flame sits prominently near the entrance to the park. It rests of a tiered circular base, that has the following inscribed in the concrete:

DEDICATED TO VETERANS BY THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO
"A NATION REVEALS ITSELF NOT ONLY BY THE MEN IT PRODUCES
BUT ALSO BY THE MEN IT HONORS; THE MEN IT REMEMBERS"
