The Earl H. Ellis VFW Post #1362 was constructed in 1939. The building was constructed and has continuously served as the home for the local Veterans of Foreign Wars. The post was named as local Marine, Lt Col. Earl Hancock Ellis. The building has not only served the local VFW but has also been used for many community social events. During World War II the building was used for entertainment of troops stations at near by Pratt Army Airfield.
The building was built of native stone acquired near Bucklin in Kiowa County west of Pratt. The building was constructed primarily by members of the post in an Art Deco influenced style. Although not constructed through the work Projects Administration the VFW building reflects the characteristics of WPA structures of this era.
The building appears to be in good condition and continues to serve the VFW. - from National Register Nomination
