Sky Orchids is reminiscent of the Cottonwood trees that stood along the banks of the City Creek oxbows at the time of the early Mormon migration to Utah, the Sky Orchids imitates the wind and captures the motion of a grove as it echoes the vitality and unpredictability of nature.
While the base of the "trees" are stationary, the "branches" are slender with wide curving contours that rotate in the wind. At the end of each "branch" is a single large "leaf" that catches the wind and propels the branches in beautiful, slow circles. There are three "trees" in this work of art, located in the outdoor dining area of the City Creek Center Food Court.
