This circular relief memorial was dedicated in May 15, 2000 to honor the firemen and police who died in the line of duty when helping to keep Sioux City and the surrounding area a safe place for its residents. It was carved from brick. One third is devoted to the Woodbury County Sheriffs’ Office, the second section focuses on the Sioux City Police Department, and the third part highlights the Sioux City Fire Department with a list of firefighters and the date they died. The memorial is in the 600 block of Douglas Street in downtown Sioux City.

The inscription says “Public Safety Memorial. It’s not how they died that made them heroes, it’s how they lived.”
