The Sara Lee building in Downers Grove, IL is a very large place that has fourteen or more stories, and a predominantly glass exterior. Other than the LEED plaque near the front entrance and the large water feature, there seems to be no obvious sign of being green. With a Silver rating the building scored between 33-38 out of a possible 110 so it is definitly green.
From news release in 2011 when Sara Lee Corporation decided to move it's North American Business Headquarters:
At the new headquarters, the company will locate at least 500 jobs, and up to 650 total jobs. Sara Lee will receive between $5 million and $6.5 million in TIF assistance, based on the number of jobs created, pending Community Development Commission and City Council approval.
The new facility will have high sustainability standards, with LEED certification. The company is investing significant money into its headquarters, and will promote significant additional revenue for the city through sales and hotel taxes. (
