Believed to have existed since 1672, when it was located in a farm dwelling, the Jolly Farmer first became a licensed public house in 1738.

During the Second World War the Jolly Farmer was a favourite haunt of the RAF pilots stationed at nearby RAF Manston. It is told that many of the pilots signed their name on the ceiling of 'The Snug'. Regrettably the ceiling has been painted over many times and so no evidence remains. Following a recent closure in 2009, it is open under new tenants and seems to be busy once more.
