Clare of Assisi (July 16, 1194 – August 11, 1253), born Chiara Offreduccio, is an Italian saint and one of the first followers of Saint Francis of Assisi. She founded the Order of Poor Ladies, a monastic religious order for women in the Franciscan tradition, and wrote their Rule of Life—the first monastic rule known to have been written by a woman. Following her death, the order she founded was renamed in her honor as the Order of Saint Clare, commonly referred to today as the Poor Clares.
Today, the Poor Clares, who have the Lord Jesus ans His Gospel for their sole treasure, have more than 18,000 members in five continents.
The arrival of the Poor Clares in Bellerive in 1902 (Salaberry-de-Valleyfield) enriches the Canadian Church through the implantation of the first monastery of Sisters of Saint Clare.
Sainte Claire, née Chiara Offreduccio di Favarone à Assise le 16 juillet 1194 dans une famille de la noblesse, morte dans cette même ville le 11 août 1253, disciple de Saint François d'Assise est la fondatrice de l'Ordre des Pauvres Dames (Clarisses), déclarée sainte par l'Église catholique romaine.
Aujourd'hui plus de 18,000 clarisses réparties dans les cinq continents ont pour unique trésor le Seigneur Jésus et son Évangile.
L'arrivée des clarisses à Bellerive en 1902 (Salaberry-de-Valleyfield) vient enrichir l'Église du Canada par l'implantation du premier monastère des sœurs de Claire.
