John Erickson, even at a young age, was a major Civil War buff who could describe most (if not all) Civil War battles, major players, dates, etc. For his Eagle Scout project he went to every grave in Fairlawn Cemetery in Stillwater, OK and wrote down every person who could have served in the Civil War. He then researched all of those and recorded their service on either side (and one female nurse as well). Over 200 names of Civil War veterans that are interred in the cemetery are on a memorial near the front of the cemetery, with the state they were from as well. A dedication ceremony was held on Saturday, July 19, 2008 at 10am and I was present. It was nice, with a dozen or more people and a bugler as well. The memorial was sponsored by the Capt. David L. Payne Camp #2, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War.
