Set back from the road in Mote Sole, Sandwich, these almshouses are the present day St Thomas's Hospital. The original St Thomas's Hospital (almshouses) were founded in 1392 by local wealthy draper, Thomas Ellis, and were located on a site just off the present day Cattle Market in Sandwich. These Victorian Gothic almshouses were built in 1878 following the demolition of the original St Thomas's Hospital.
