Currambene Creek rises in the foothills to the south of the Naval Base HMAS Albatross, tumbles over a series of rocky ledges beside the Princes Highway & then passes through farmland before entering the tidal zone of salt marshes, mangroves & forests. It is short in length but very picturesque as it nears Jervis Bay & is a popular aerial photographic subject.
Its estuary is fringed with mangrove swamps, the village of Huskisson & a sandy beach along the spit of land that separates it from the bay. The waters inside this spit provide safe anchorage for a wide variety of pleasure craft & small trawlers. Near its mouth dolphin & whale watch cruisers wait at the wharves.
The bar at the creek's mouth is navigable at high tide. I took the co-ordinates on the man made rocky foreshore on the southern side, on an ebb tide & approx. a metre from the mouth.
You can park nearby & walk along a pathway that skirts the creek & continues along the shores of the bay. You can access the opposite side by driving to Myola & walking along the shore.
