The water level of icy-cold and crystal clear Lake Nemrut is in the elevation of about 2 247 m. The lake occupies the huge summit caldera (diameter 7.5-8.5 km) of Mount Nemrut volcano. Mount Nemrut is a stratovolcano, and began erupting during the Quaternary and continued to be active until 1597 A.D.
