The current brick building is the third at this location with two prior being destroyed by fire ca. 1750 and ca. 1770. It design is similar to Bruton Parish Church in Williamsburg, Virginia (see its waymark) where the pulpit is in center of the north wall to emphasize preaching. The rest of the sanctuary is filled with bench seating.

Also from the church website (link below), we learn that this current building was "completed in 1776 at a cost of 30,000 pounds of tobacco". Based on other historical research I found, tobacco, during that time period, was selling at roughly a shilling per pound (around 12 cents). Adjusting for inflation to now, the construction of the brick single-room church was around $100,000 in today's dollars.

During the US Civil War, the church building was gutted by Union soldiers staying here during the cold winter of 1863. In the 1970s, the facility was restored. The other buildings on the grounds are modern expansions to support the active congregation.

Come enjoy the quiet and reflect at this old country church...
