An above ground looking crypt-monument commemorates another New York Infantry force at 'No Man's Land', aka Little Round Top. Jagged, large boulders and treacherous, almost non-existent footpaths await potential visitors, of which, there were few.

The 146th New York Infantry was also known as Halleck Infantry. During the battle of Gettysburg, it served as a member of Weed’s Brigade in Ayres’ Division of the Fifth Corps, Army of the Potomac, a Fighting 300 Regiment. The unit was commanded at the Battle of Gettysburg by Col. Kenner Garrad (1827-1879), USMA 1851 from Bourbon County, Kentucky. Garrad took over command of the brigade on July 2 when Brigadier General Stephen Weed was mortally wounded, Lt. Col. David T. Jenkins (1836-1864) took command of the regiment. Jenkins was a surveyor from Vernon and killed in action at the Wilderness. The 146th New York brought 534 men to the field, losing 4 men killed and 24 wounded.

The 146th New York Infantry Monument is located on the northwest slope of Little Round Top, along Sykes Avenue, on the left when traveling north, just downhill from the statue to Brigadier General Gouverneur Warren. There are several monuments on this hillside, all in curious positions. To get to this monument and the others I thought there must be some kind of trail to go through the rough landscape and rocky terrain. There was none that I could see. Needless to say, exercise extreme caution as I'd out the terrain just below a 4. The 146th regiment occupied this position on the 2nd of July 1863. .

The Draw the Sword site helped out by the NPS narrative and the SIRIS site offers the following description: Memorial: Quincy granite with bronze adornments; Base: stone. Monument consists of a rectangular block with ridged cap and carved mini ball cornice, decorated with bronze New York State Seal on the front; and Maltese Cross on the back. Dedicated in late 1888 or 1898, it marks the location held by the 146th Infantry unit on the 2nd of July 1863. Overall height is 8.4 foot. Flanking markers are flat topped with inscription on the top, one foot square. The Regiment dug in here and erected stone breastworks and remained here throughout Battle. Meade observed Battle from this position for a time on July 3, 1863.

The monument was dedicated in 1888 by the State of New York and fabricated by Frederick & Field. The NRHP narrative has it mistakingly as 1880. The monument's base is composed of Quincy granite with bronze adornments; the base is made of stone. The sculpture has the following dimensions: Memorial: approx. 6 ft. 4 in. x 6 ft. 10 in. x 45 in.; Base: approx. 2 ft. 10 in. x 9 ft. 6 in. x 6 ft. 6 in. This is one of 90 monuments in the park to New York commands in Gettysburg campaign. There are inscriptions on all four sides which read:
