Rockingham County
Area 876 Square Miles
Formed in 1778 from Augusta, and named for the Marquis of Rockingham, British statesman. John Sevier, of Tennessee, was born in this county. In it took place the Battles of Cross Keys and Port Republic, 1862.

West face
Greene County
Area 155 Square Miles
Formed in 1838 from Orange, and named for General Nathanael Greene, commander of the Army of the South in the Revolutionary War.

Located on US33 right when is passes under the Skyline Drive. Shoulder pull-over available.

The marker has been broken and welded back together.
