The stone church dates from 750AD. It is thought that there may have been a wooden church here before that. Over the years many alterations and additions have been made. Church is open daily and is also used for worship.
There are many graves and near to the church porch is the remains of a prayer cross dating back to the origin of the church.
One of the headstones reads-
"In memory of MARY. The daughter of JONATHAN and HANNAH DEARDEN, who died March 17th 1813 aged 10 months.
Also of JOHN. their son, who died Novr 5th 1818 aged 1 year and 10 months.
Also of ANN. their daughter, who died May 30th 1835, aged 21 years.
Also of MATHEW. their son who died August 20th 1860 aged 60 years.
All you that behold this stone,
O think how quickly I was gone,
Death does not warning always give,
Therefore be careful how you live.
Also the above named HANNAH DEARDEN, who died September 5th 1862 aged 84 years.
Also the above named JONATHAN DEARDEN, who died Sepr 8th 1868 aged 80 years."
Another gravestone reads -
" In Loving Memory of ELIZA, the loving and beloved wife of
F.W.KLSEY, of auckland new zealand, and youngest daughter of
J.FARNSWORTH, late of conisbro
who died August 15th 1883, aged 27 years.
Thy will be done."
