Tucked beneath the Snowdonia mountains, Llyn Dinas mirrors the heather, trees and landscape on its smooth surface. Yet, it lies right next to the road and remains accessible for all to enjoy its views.

Wikipedia describes the lake: visit link

'Llyn Dinas is a lake near Beddgelert, Gwynedd in north Wales. It is formed by the River Glaslyn.

Llyn Dinas lies on the valley floor a few miles north of Beddgelert at an altitude of about 55 metres above sea level. It has an area of 60 acres (240,000 m2) and is fairly shallow, with the maximum depth only 10 metres. The lake offers good fishing for salmon and trout.

It takes its name from the nearby Dinas Emrys, a rocky and wooded hill just downstream of the lake where the remains of both medieval and older fortifications have been found. A rock near the lake named Carreg yr Eryr (The stone of the eagle) was said in a charter of 1198 to mark the spot where the boundaries of the three cantrefs of Aberconwy, Ardudwy and Arfon met. According to Giraldus Cambrensis an eagle used to perch on it once a week, anticipating battle between the men of the three cantrefs.'

There is a story associated with the lake: Vortigern's treasure as described by Robert Vermaat:

'Llyn Dinas is one of the many mysterious pools or lakes associated with Arthur. This lake lies close to the hillfort of Dinas Emrys, the legendary place of the showdown between the failing tyrant Vortigern and the young boy Ambrosius (Emrys in Welsh), who was later identified with the wizard Merlin.

Here, under the still reflection of the dark waters, lies hidden the Throne of Britain, sunk beneath a great stone by Vortigern. This may in part be a memory of Merlin's treasure, which is apparently buried beneath nearby Dinas Emrys, or else in a cave near the area.

Llyn Dinas is right next to Dinas Emrys, and a visit to the one could and should be combined with a visit to the other.'
