In August 1910 a meeting was held to consider forming a local Fire Brigade. A subscription list was opened to raise funds and in September 1918 Hon. EH Farrar, MLC, and President of the Fire Brigade Board opened the fire station. In September 1935 a new motor engine was bought that gave mobility to the fire brigade.
