Bragança´s old Monarchy Coat of arms is composed by a Shield with the image of a tower in the middle. This tower represents the Castle. Today´s coat of arms has changed a bit. The castle has now 3 towers and holds the five shields of Portugal.
This particular coat of arms is composed only by the shield. t´s the monarchy Coat of arms of Braga. It´s part of the Monument to the Battle of Ourique when the forces of Portuguese Prince Afonso Henriques (of the House of Burgundy) defeat the Almoravid Moors led by Ali ibn Yusuf. The Coat of arms is placed on the floor. Tere are 2 coat of arms in each of the 4 corners of the monument (See pictures).
