Creve Coeur Lake is the largest natural lake in the State of Missouri. It is a great place to paddle, sail or fish. Gas motors can't be used. They close the lake for speed boat racing once a year. It was the site of the rowing event for the 1904 Summer Olympics.
You can even get here via the KATY Trail.
Very nearby is the Creve Coeur Lake Streetcar Power Substation built around 1900 to shelter the power substation for the Creve Coeur Lake Streetcar Line. The Line started at Delmar and Kingsland. People took the street car to the lake to escape the summer heat. The streetcar line was shut down in 1950 when the roads to the county were improved.

"Creve Coeur is a 320-acre lake located in the Missouri River floodplain, where the nutrient-rich soil is easily eroded. Even though the lake is part of a 1,141-acre park, the area adjacent to the lake is urban. Creve Coeur Lake differs from all of the other lakes in the program in that it is not a reservoir, but an oxbow lake. Having once been part of the Missouri River, this lake is now about two miles from the present channel, separated over time by the natural meandering of the river."
