The Old Maizeland School was first erected in 1868, as the first school in the Rivera School District of Los Angeles County. This one-room schoolhouse is one of several “old western” buildings which were relocated to Knott’s Berry Farm by Walter Knott, for display and preservation. It was previously located on Shugg Lane, now Slauson Avenue. The schoolhouse is designated as California Historic Landmark #729. The building is currently being used as a nature education center for children visiting the park.
