Located at the city centre of the provincial capital of Chiang Mai, and redolent with history is Chedi Luang. Certainly worth a visit if you are in the city (in fact, a must see), however, of even greater importance are the bells on the eastern side of the chedi.
There are two lines of bells, either side, immediately before the steps (which are closed to visitors) leading to the upper area of the Chedi. These are of a standard design, and are to be rung by visitors, though, of course, a small donation (20 baht) is the down thing to do. These bells seem popular with local tourists, both for dining and photography.
