The Chiang Mai train station lies ~3kms east of the city centre, a 100baht (or maybe 80 if you are a good negotiator) ride on a tuk tuk. It is a large station, indicative of the large size of the town (a million plus), plus the hordes of young backpackers, who head north from Bangkok. To one side of the entrance is this large tower clock, facing out into the carpark. Maybe 10m high, and it tells the correct time. If the photos look smokey, it is because they are. Forests in neighbouring Laos and Burma are being burnt, and smoke is blowing across the border. All great fun.
