The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art has created a sculpture garden across the street from its museum building, in a park called The Green at 435 S Tryon Street, Charlotte, NC, where it has placed several large mosaic sculptures. These are very well done pieces of artworks, mostly identified as being created by artist Niki De Saint Phalle. Some either had no identification plaque or were placed where they were easily overlooked. This large mosaic representing a famous jazz trumpeter is titled Miles Davis. It is made of polyurethane foam, resin, steel armature, and stained and mirrored glass. Miles Davis was created in 1999 and is stated to be 106 inch x 51 inch x 39 inch in size. The artwork also has an audio explanation of this work by listening to a prerecorded voice by calling 704-353-9250. This sculpture is located toward the middle of The Green park.
Specific visit requirements: When visiting this artwork, try taking a photo of a part of the sculpture that has not yet been photographed. Close-ups of inside, top, or unusual or colorful mosaic pattern would be good suggestions for photos.
