Chiang Mai province contains the large tourist city of the same name (one million plus), while a little to the south, only 30 kilometres distant, is the relatively tiny city (~15,000) and province of Lamphun. A study in contrasts.

Several highways and a train line connect these two cities and provinces. This particular road runs along the rail line, a secondary road. At this border crossing is a sign marking the boundary. Interestingly, this is the not the usual (in my experience), large blue, overhead sign, rather a small, white sign adjacent to the road. Both sides of the sign are lettered, with the respective province.

The surrounding land is largely used to grow rice and various fruit crops, somewhat unpopulated. No facilities. The sign is easy to spot.
