In Newton's Newtonville section, is Newtonville Books, which is currently both a new and used book store.

The store is currently located in the Masonic Temple at the corner of Walnut Street and Newtonville Avenue. The store is really in two stores - one of which used to be occupied by a Christian Science Reading Room. At the time of the visit one part of the store was arranged for an event that they were holding.

The web site for the store states that they hold 75 to 100 events, writing workshops, and bookclubs a year. They feel that it is an integral part of their store.

The store announced that they are moving to Newton Center in April. This is what was on their web site:

"As you know, we host somewhere between 75 and 100 events, writing workshops, and bookclubs each year. We feel the role of the independent bookstore is to enliven its community with quality literary programming; but there is a wide swath of book lovers who can't attend our events because we're not off the subway system. For this reason, we decided to move to Newton Centre."

As part of the move, they have decided that they will expand the children's book section but eliminate the used book portion.
