The Browning Funeral Home is located on the north side of Evansville, IN just north of Diamond Ave. The building actually sits at the corner of Diamond and Joan Ave.
Browning is named after Charles and Dee Browning, who opened the business in 1954. It has been family owned and ran since its inception. Charles passed the business to daughter Jeannie in 1997, keeping it in the hands of the Browning family, just before Charles passed away.
The website for the funeral home does not give much information as to what services are available, but something it does talk about is their service called "Journey Through Life". Their "Journey Through Life" is a personalized book written by the funeral home for the family of the deceased. This was started in 1990 by Dee Browning and has since been taken over by another one of the Browning daughters, Charleen. ((From the website) "Creating their biographies into a forever memorial. With our unique, tribute folder, Charleen, and Browning Funeral Home preserves the Journey’s within “The Books of Life” for eternity."
Charles Browning is best known for his labor of love, the Browning Geneology Database, which is a database through the local library system that has a listing of all obituaries from the southern Indiana and southern Illinios area.
