At the large plague at 2nd floor level there is a portrait of Hanus Karlik and the following text:
HOSPODARSKA SILA JE ZARUKOU SVOBODY
V tomto dome narodil se dne 23. brezna 1850
Dr. Techn. H.C. Ing. Hanus Karlik
budovatel ceskeho prumyslu cukrovarnickeho
(ECONOMIC POWER IS THE WARRANTY OF FREEDOM - In this house, on March 23rd, 1850, was born Dr. Techn. H.C. Ing. Hanus Karlik, builder of the Czech sugar processing industry).
Hanus Karlik had studied chemistry at Prague Technical University and worked as a director of several Central Bohemian sugar processing plants. He modernized the factories in Nymburk and Podebrady, and became an authority in sugar processing technology. For his merits in industrialization he received a knight order of Emperor Franz Joseph in 1905. He died in 1927 in Prague.
