A blue plaque is attached to the west wall of
the former Lord Warden Hotel near the Western Docks at Dover. It has been placed
by The Coastal Forces Heritage Trust to commemorate the men and women of the
Allied Coastal Forces who served with the Royal Navy here at HMS WASP. between
1940 and 1944.
During WW2 many small naval bases were quickly
assembled around the shores of the UK to provide protection for coastal shipping
from attack by German naval forces based across the English Channel in occupied
Europe. From HMS WASP, Motor Torpedo Boats, Motor Gun Boats and Motor Launches
carried out vital operations against enemy forces. More info on Coastal Forces
during WW2 can be found
