The BWR has been in use by the navy since the 1800s & occupies 4,200 hectares of Beecroft Headland which is near Jervis Bay. The range is open to the public when not in use & has many attractive bushland areas & beautiful white sand beaches. Those sections that are impacted by live firing are always off limits.
There is no information about the mines on site & I haven't been able to locate any via the internet. The round one is a contact mine which would either float or be anchored, exploding when ships came into contact with the protuberances. The cylindrical one appears by its shape to be a magnetic mine & would lay on the bottom, exploding as a ship passed over it.
Location restrictions: The mines are located at the entrance to the weapons range & are always accessible.
