There were two ATMs in the outside wall of this branch, and a night deposit safe. Both the ATMs and the night deposit have gone, only the post slot remains. This was a Midland branch before HSBC took over. The village of Ambleside was modernised during the Victorian period. There are old photographs from 1920s which show the façade of this branch. Banks were built to impress in early days of banking, unlike the 1970s creation opposite of the Natwest bank. The flat above is still called Midland Chambers. (

It is not known if this purpose built as a bank, but the building has this front in a 1905 photograph. Possibly an hotel.
Now a branch of a chocolate and gift shop, Ye Olde Friars. (
