The stone was laid by Sir John Northcott who was Chief of General Staff during the Second World War & the first Australian-born governor of New South Wales.

After World War Two the Moruya RSL received many new members & it was decided that as the town didn't have a public hall,the RSL would build its own. The hall although a great acquisition for the town was not a money making proposition & it was leased to the local council in 1978.
