The church was built of local granite from a quarry that in later years would supply stone for the construction of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
The cornerstone was placed on 21st August 1887 as part of the foundation ceremony for the church. Immediately below the cornerstone is a brass plaque which was placed on 3rd October 1987 to celebrate the church's centenary.
