A actual ponte que liga as duas margens da vila de Arcos de Valdevez é uma construção do sec XIX, iniciada em 1876 e finalizada em 1880, que substituiu integralmente um exemplar de origem medieval, de estrutura marcadamente românica, construida, provalvelmente entre os finais do século XII, inicios do século XIII, uma vez que nas inquirições de 1258 o topónimo Arcos surge já referenciado.
A existência da ponte e a sua associação com a feira local, de significativa dimensão e importância no século XV, bem como uma importante rede viária de e para o exterior estiveram na base do desenvolvimento histórico, económico e social da Vila dos Arcos.

Bridge over the river Vez (Village Bridge)

The present bridge that links the two banks of the village of Arcos de Valdevez dates from the late 19th century, it was started in 1876 and finished in 1880 to replace the medieval one, clearly Romanic and probably constructed betwen the late 12th century and early 13th, since, the Royal Inquiries of 1258 already mention the toponym of Arcos.

The bridge's existence and its relationship with the local market, of significant dimension and relevance in the 15th century, as the important road system to and from the exterior based the historical, economic and social development of the Village of Arcos.
