This building was erected in 1902 as the Queen's Arcade. It is symmetrical, of seven bays and two storeys. There are three entrances, the central one imposing and bearing the legend 'Queen's Arcade' and above it the date of build, A.D.1902. The outer two entrances are to the Queens Chambers, a series of offices. The windows are all two pane sash types with double arches over, those above the central windows extending upwards into a false gable end.
The arcade used to extend right through to the promenade and the Queen's Palace which possessed a large theatre and a super ballroom. In the dome above the Palace was a zoo and a small observation tower. There have also been a waxworks, forty shops, a Winter Garden, a Roof Garden, a Native Village, and an underwater imitation of Venice with real canals and a lake manned by an Italian family who came here specifically to do so. Little Venice came complete with gondolas.
The Sussex Street entrance is now the way in to the Queen's Market where there are several trade outlets and workshops.
Over the last few years there have been proposals made to demolish this last piece of the Victorian Heritage of Rhyl and also an action group set up to retain the building and even restore it to something of its former glory.
