The description from the book is as follows:
The NEW CITY HALL,SW corner of Madison Ave. and N. Perry St., is a modern two-story structure of pinkish tapestry brick with limestone trim, designed by Wayne Lockwood. The central portion is an auditorium seating 2,600; wings on each side house city administrative offices. The interior stairways have wrought-iron handrails, and in the spacious lobby are decorative drinking fountains. Alabama: A Guide to the Deep South, Montgomery Section, p. 234.
In March 1932, a fire destroyed the Montgomey City Hall. Fortunately, the city was able to obtain a WPA grant and a new city hall was constructed on the same site. It opened in September 1937. One of its features, as noted in the Guide. was a large auditorium where on January 4, 1953, the funeral of singer Hank Williams, Sr. was held. Some 2700 were inside while 20,000 people gathered outside, making it one of the largest gatherings in city history. The coordinates are near the entrance at 103 North Perry Street, by the intersection with Madison Avenue.
