Torre Canela was built in the late 16th Century - early 17th Century. Although it is now some kilometers far from the shore, by then it wasn't like this. Actually this is one of the 40 towers of its kind which were built between Gibraltar and what is now the border between Spain and Portugal. It was a complex system of pre-warning, working with smoke and fire signals.
