The statue is on the beach in the dotnwon area of the city. Anchieta was a Jesuit priest, and founder of the city of Sao Paulo. He was also the founder of Rio De Janeiro state. The Spanish born priest was instrumental to the country's first century after its discovery. He also played a part in converting natives Brazilian Indians into catholics.

The statue has Anchieta is a robe, with his hands positioned outwards. I think he used to hold a cane, but the piece was broken off of the statue. The statue stands about 7ft tall and is made of what looks like ceramic or stone.
