" Vietnam War 1964 -1973
47, 369 KIA; 47.303 wounded; 591 POW; 1,172 MIA;
cost $111 billion."
Vietnam has the dubious honor of being the Longest War. Our government labeled it a conflict. Television brought it home in gruesome images. Night after night. We learned of Agent Orange.
Many children were orphaned in Vietnam and many famiies at home became fatherless, if in fact the young men who went there had families. People took sides and communities were divided by patriots and peace-niks. The men who came home were changed. Many could never again enjoy a fireworks celebration. Post traumatic stress wasn't on that horizon. But we have homeless veterans in too many states.
