The Church of São Domingos, from the Convent of São Domingo, was built in the thirteenth century in Lisbon, and its foundation stone was launched in 1241. Since then has been the subject of numerous work campaigns that have changed it's medieval traces completely.
The 1755 earthquake knocked it down completely, except the main chapel, which had been under construction in 1748.
In 1959, a devastating fire completely destroyed the interior of the church, which contained gilded altars, valuable pictures and paintings.
The church received works and reopened to the public in 1994, without hiding the marks of fire, like the cracked columns. Although partialy destroyed, is a church that stands out for its polychrome marbles.
This baroque church, with a Latin cross plan, has a simple facade , but the interior, even after the earthquake and fire, evidences a great beauty and eclecticism. It is a church with a single nave, magnificent.
