The Alfred Escher Memorial Fountain is located in front of the Central Station (Hauptbahnhof) in Zuerich. The fountain was created by Swiss sculptor Richard Kissling in 1889 to honor the memory of Alfred Escher (1819-1882),Zurich native,a railway entrepreneur and renowned politician of the time. Standing above a fountain, the statue of Alfred Escher represents a visionary of a many, who was the founder of one of the country's largest banks. Alfred Escher was also one of the original co-founders of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, which he did because there were not enough engineers around at the time.
