The site north of the Salzach river valley here is outside the "Tauernfenster" on Wildschönauer slate from the Palaeozoic. Originally these rocks of the Kitzbühel Alps formed south of the equator today.

They were the marine deposits of the modern northern Limestone from the south over the rocks of the Hohe Tauern to the north carried.
The northern thrust still hold on today but very weak.

The rocks of the Hohe Tauern are far to the south created, around the area, where is now North Africa.

In the period 120-30 million years before present the African continent emigrated to Europe, where Marine sediments and underlying rocks to far north pushed into piles on top.

The lying deep in the subsurface rocks of the Hohe Tauern converted under high pressure and heat, lifted up later and released.
