The village of Pedralva is now a special place. Why special? because it used to be a remote and traditional Portuguese village. then, as most of its inhabitants aged and for different reasons left the place, someone bought most of the houses and transformed it in a rural tourism project.
In my second visit to the village I saw, in its edge, the building of the former primary school. I am not 100% sure it's not active, but it wouldn't make sense, considering there are not students living in the area. Not anymore. However, it stands in perfect conditions, even the flag pole still hanging from the hall. There is a video surveillance camera near the door, which means the place is definitely not abandoned. Only the garden around the building is in terrible condition, with tall vegetation spreading all around.
This school was certainly part of "Progama do Centenário, a guge campaign launched by the Portuguese State to provide education to all potential students in the country. Primary schools were built accordingly to the same layout and look, only changing the scale of the building accordingly to the size of the local community. Between the 40's and the 60's, 7000 primary schools were built.
