By 1970 The Banks County Journal had been acquired by The Commerce News. The Commerce News was later acquired by its competitor The Jackson Herald which for a time ran a direct competitor to the Banks County Journal called the Banks County Herald. Both papers were weekly publications. For a time the Journal was the legal organ for Banks county since for quite some time it was the only paper published in Banks County. That ended in 1968 and its publisher died in March 1969. A legal advertised the fact that the property of the deceased editor (Pat Hilton) would be sold Aug. 5 1969. Property listed included: one paper-cutter; one Chandler and Price automatic job press; one Campbell printing press; one paper folder; one 28" monitor perforator; one router; one Mergenthaler linotype Model 8; and assorted type and cases. That seem to be the end of the publishing business for the Journal here in Homer.

None the less, the descendant of the Journal (through purchases and mergers) lives on toady as the Banks County News and is published by Main Street News but back when it was known as the Banks County Journal this is where it was published and printed.
