This station, a N.H.Department of Public Works and Highways disk, is located in Amherst, NH, on the south side of NH Route 101, a/k/a the Horace Greeley Highway. It is set in a rather large rock outcrop flanked by several small pine trees. The NGS datasheet description is as follows:

THE STATION IS LOCATED IN AMHERST.

TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE JUNCTION OF STATE ROUTES 101 AND 101A
EAST OF MILFORD, GO NORTH AND EAST FOR 5.95 MI ON ROUTE 101 TO THE
T-JUNCTION OF OLD MANCHESTER ROAD ON THE RIGHT, CONTINUE STRAIGHT AND
GO EAST FOR 0.6 MI ON ROUTE 101 TO A SMALL LEDGE CUT AND THE STATION
ON THE RIGHT. ALSO, TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE BEDFORD/AMHERST TOWN
LINE, GO SOUTH FOR 0.6 MI ON ROUTE 101 TO THE STATION ON THE LEFT.

THE STATION IS A STANDARD NHDPWH DISK STAMPED--013 0370--, SET IN A
DRILL HOLE IN A ROCK LEDGE, 6.6 FT ABOVE THE HIGHWAY. 38.1 FT SOUTH
FROM THE CENTER OF THE HIGHWAY, 5.9 FT NORTH FROM A BARBED WIRE
FENCE, 48.6 FT EAST FROM POWER POLE PSNH/210/69/NETTCO, AND 7.9 FT
WEST FROM AN ORANGE CARSONITE WITNESS POST.

This station is being treated as a triangulation station, and has ADJUSTED published coordinates.

The carsonite post wasn't seen at the time of recovery. The NHDOT datasheet description is much more extensive, mentioning reference marks and other details. At the time of recovery, all that was at my disposal was a mark on a map, and crossed fingers. Upon sighting the only prominent rock outcrop in the area, and then seeing some marker tapes hanging over the same rock, I think I did okay at the moment. However, I will go back again and seek out the reference marks now that I obtained a full description. Updates will follow.

The datasheets both say that this station is suitable for GPS, but tree overgrowth may impede that ability in the future.

The only hazard known here is that NH 101 is a very busy road, and one must watch carefully for vehicular traffic.

Both NGS and NHDOT datasheets are accessible at the links below.
