From the primitive invocation of Santa Catarina, this chapel, situated on the outskirts of Abrantes, still maintains iconographic elements recalling this first patron saint. It is a small temple with rectangular and square chancel, of clear Manueline typology, although possibly built on a previous building.
The isolated location of the chapel, has caused that in the reign of D. Sebastião, a hospice was built in front of it, intended to accommodate the victims of the plague that is now raging in the village.
There was installed then, the Parish of St. Vincent, while its ancient temple was rebuilt. In any case, this parish seat did not last long, as early 1570 the vicar of St. Vincent went to the Chapel of Santa Iria.
