The 'old' town of Melaka is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and replete with old buildings and historical sites. Many of these buildings are dated.
This building is one of the many residential looking buildings in this area. Most likely home to one family, and I would suspect, in its heyday, one of the better such establishments in the city. There is also a line of Chinese text on the external wall, most likely a family name.
