Tay Phuong Pagoda perches atop a fifty-meter-high limestone hillock supposedly shaped like a buffalo. The pagoda is about 40km west of Hanoi and is located in the Ha Tay province of Vietnam.

The Pagoda was built during the 6th and 7th centuries and has been restored several times since then. Tay Phuong‘s most notable architectural features are its heavy double roofs, whose graceful curves are decorated with phoenixes and dragons, its unplastered brick walls and an inviting approach via 239 time-worn, red-brick steps.
