This is the EB ramp from Mather to HW 50. The central valley of California is known as part of the Pacific Flyway migration area.
Just north of the freight depot, formerly Mather AFB, there have been ongoing recurrences of bird meets plane. Cel towers also have taken a toll on the migrating birds. Huge flights used to wing over Sacramento. The other allegory would be the former Navigation school that trained at Mather. The direction was often in line with a body of water (Folsom Lake and smaller ponds). Canada geese still visit the local parks (watch your step).
The cut outs are placed against a new retaining wall.
