The local name for mountain lakes in the Tatra
Mountains is "pleso".

With one exception all of them is glacial
tarns – kettle lakes or moraine lakes.

Glacial lakes in
the Tatra Mountains originated as a result of glaciation in the Pleistocene. Currently 135 lakes is in the Tatra mountains. 105 of them are permanent lakes that never
run
dry.

Velke Hincovo pleso (Great Hinec´s lake) is the largest and deepest kettle lake in
Slovakia.

Water area is 20.08 hectares and a maximum depth exceeds 50
meters.

The
total volume of water in the lake is 1.796 million cubic meters.

The lake is situated
in altitude of 1944 meters on the highest end of the valley called Mengusovská dolina.

The kettle of Velke Hincovo
tarn is surrounded by mountains (from west) Koprovský Peak (2367 m), Cubrina (2376 m), Mengusovský Peak (2432 m), Hincova tower (2372 m) and Mengusovský Volovec (2228 m).

The lake has
not any permanent tributary.

Water
in Velke Hincovo lake is very cold and has a maximum temperature 7 ° C only. Ice covers the lake 270 days during a
year.

In the
past brook trouts were introduced into the lake. Now Velke Hincovo pleso is the highest situated place of his presence.

The lake is situated in the High Tatras National Park and is accessible only from the 16th June to 31
October.

The shortest way to Velke Hincovo lake is blue hiking trail from the lake Popradské Pleso.
Parking and the nearest railway station is farther along the blue
trail (see waypoint).

It is the easiest way but you have to expect elevation about 700 meters and a distance of seven kilometers. Climb from Popradské lake takes approximately 1.5
hours.

jezerum v Tatrách se ríká plesa.

jedinou výjimkou jde o jezera s ledovcovým puvodem, a to bud
jezera karová, nebo jezera morénová.

Ledovcová
jezera v Tatrách vznikala behem ctvrtohorního zalednení a do
dnešních dnu se jich zachovalo 135. Vetšina z nich (105) je
jezery stálými, takže nikdy nevysychají.

Hincovo jezero je nejvetším a nejhlubším ledovcovým jezerem na
Slovensku.

Rozloha
hladiny Velkého Hincova plesa je 20.08 hektaru a maximální hloubka je víc
než 50 metru.

Objem
vody zadržované v jezeru je 1.796 milionu metru krychlových.

Hladina
jezera se nachází na nejvyšším konci Mengusovské doliny ve výšce 1
944 metru nad morem.

Kar
Velkého Hincova plesa obklopují tatranské štíty (od západu) Koprovský
štít (2367 m), Cubrina (2376 m), Mengusovský štít (2432 m), Hincova vež
(2372 m) a Mengusovský Volovec (2228 m).

Jezero
nemá žádný trvalý prítok.

Voda
Velkého Hincova plesa je velice chladná, nejvyšší teplota dosahuje pouhých
7 stupnu Celsia. 270 dní v roce hladinu zakrývá vrstva ledu.

V
minulosti byl do plesa vysazen pstruh rícní. Jezero se tak stalo nejvýše
položeným místem, kde tato ryba žije.

Cesta
k jezeru je prístupná jen v období od 16. 6. do 31. 10.!

Nejkratší
cesta k Velkému Hincovu plesu vede po modré turistické znacce od
Popradského plesa. Ješte o kus dále po modré se nachází
parkovište a železnicní zastávka "Popradské pleso".

Je
to nejkratší cesta, ale presto musíte pocítat s prevýšením cca 700
metru. Výstup od Popradského plesa v prumeru trvá hodinu a pul.
